Mission Statement

In alignment with the Sorrell College of Business, the mission of the Carr School of Accountancy is to advance the accounting profession by providing quality accounting education to both undergraduate and graduate students.

To achieve this, our faculty will:

  1. Prepare students for career opportunities with increasing professional and managerial responsibility in regional public accounting firms, as well as in government and industry in the Southeastern United States, and prepare undergraduate students for admission to graduate programs in accounting and business;
  2. Publish quality intellectual contributions that advance both the practice of accounting and accounting education; and
  3. Provide service to and engage with both the academic and professional communities.

Hear from the Chair

The Accounting Program offered through the Carr School of Accountancy within the Sorrell College of Business is designed to afford students the opportunities to obtain a high level of proficiency in accounting and to qualify for the uniform CPA Examination. Routinely ranked among the highest in terms of CPA exam pass rates, our graduates are heavily recruited by national, regional and local CPA firms. The success of our graduates has enabled the Sorrell College of Business to foster relationships with CPA firms throughout the United States. These relationships have resulted in extremely high placement rates for our graduates year after year.

The alliances with the CPA firms continue to grow through the establishment of the Accounting Advisory Council that is comprised of partners from national, regional and local CPA firms. Periodic meetings of the Council and faculty representatives maintain the line of communication between the academic and public accounting worlds to ensure that our students receive a state-of-the-art accounting education and that they are rewarded with top job opportunities.
