FAQ About the Tourism, Event Management & Hospitality Program

Learn more about the hospitality, tourism and event management industry and our program.
What is a degree in hospitality management?

A hospitality management degree prepares you for careers in the hospitality industry by developing skills in hotel and resort operations, food and beverage management, customer service and business leadership. It typically focuses on managing accommodations, restaurants and guest experiences.

At TROY, the B.S. in Hospitality Tourism and Event Management program goes beyond hospitality industry training to integrate tourism and event planning into the curriculum. In addition to hospitality operations, you'll gain expertise in destination marketing, experience design, venue management and tourism development. This broader approach opens doors to hospitality and tourism careers, event coordination, experience management and so much more.
What can you do with a hospitality management degree?

A hospitality management degree prepares you for careers primarily in hotels, resorts, restaurants and other guest-service industries. You'll gain skills in hotel operations, food and beverage management, event coordination and customer experience. However, this degree focuses mainly on traditional hospitality roles, limiting opportunities in broader sectors like tourism development, destination marketing and large-scale event management.

At TROY, the bachelor's in hospitality, tourism and event management provides a more expansive approach, combining hospitality industry training with tourism and event planning. You'll gain hands-on experience in venue management, experience design and destination marketing, preparing you for a wider range of career paths. With strong industry connections, internships and alumni networking, TROY ensures you have the flexibility and experience to succeed across multiple sectors, not just hospitality.

How does this degree compare to a Bachelor of Tourism Studies?

TROY's bachelor's program offers a broader focus, including preparation for event planning jobs, entertainment and hospitality venue management and other careers in hospitality management.
